The Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment 4th January1916

4th January 1916 – 

1st Battalion – Quiet day.
Casualties 3 Other ranks Killed, 2 Wounded.
2nd Battalion – Company drill by day & night. Attack on a rearguard.
Officers 32.    Other Ranks 824.
To base from salvage Coy 6.
To 13th Corps Hdqrs 1.
1/5th Battalion - The moveable column was again ordered out & cancelled as the weather was very rough & it was impossible to get the mules across from left to right bank.
1/6th Battalion – Relieved in the trenches by the 6th Buffs. The relief of the Battalion was complete by 6.5pm. The previous night passed quietly. The enemy was active as usual during the day with rifle grenades to which we replied. Battalion went into reserve billets at LE QUESNOY.
Casualties 2 Wounded both Coy Sergt Major
7th Battalion – Enemy bombarded PURFLEET, F 3 a 07, with about 15 heavy trench mortar bombs killing 3 men & wounding 3. 7th R.W. Kent regt, relieved 7th the Buffs in E1.
8th Battalion – Training was continued.
