The Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment 3rd January1916

3rd January 1916 – 

1st Battalion – Quiet up to 3pm when Battn, H.Q. & PONTFIXE were shelled for over an hour.
Casualties 1 killed.
2nd Battalion – Company drill by day & night. Attack on a rearguard.
Officers 32.    Other Ranks 831.
From Hospital 6.
2/4th Battalion
1/5th Battalion -
1/6th BattalionIN THE TRENCHES.
Enemy quiet during the night during the day they sent over rifle grenades especially on the Centre & Right Coys we retaliated. Enemy shelled WINDY CORNER didn’t do any material damage. Enemy again active with rifle grenades to which we replied & shut him up. Improved trenches & put out wire during the night.
Casualties 7 Wounded.
7th Battalion – Quiet day nothing to record.
8th Battalion – Training was continued.
