The Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment 1st October 1915

1st October 1915 – 

1st Battalion – The Battn, paraded at 2pm and marched to VERMELLES stood by at Bde Rendezvous just W of VERMELLES until 8.30pm. Went into billets on Eastern side of town at 10.30pm. 2 Lieut R. Faulkner joined the Battn.
Capt J.R. Walpole joined the Battn, & takes command of D Coy.
2nd Battalion – Officers 19.    Other Ranks 747.
Wounded 1.
To Hospital 2.
Afternoon Battn, marched to CAMBRIN & took over new line of trenches on immediate right of CUINCHY from the 5th Scottish Rifles.
Perfect maze of communication trenches running up to the front line. Many bodies & derelict arms & equipment lying about.
1/6th BattalionCORONS DE RUTOIRE.
Remained in billets. Officers sent out reconnoitring trenches held by 35&30th Bde. – Wounded other ranks two.
2/4th Battalion GALLIPOLI
7th Battalion 18th DIVISION. 7th QUEENS.   VILLE-SOUS CORBIE.
In billets, nothing to record. Capt J.R. Walpole transferred to 1st Battalion.

8th Battalion – At BERGUETTE resting.
