The Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment 12th July 1915


12th July 1915 – 

1st Battalion – Work under 2nd Divn, resumed. No 10731 Pte Stepney accidently wounded in billets by revolver.
2nd Battalion – Officers 34.    Other Ranks 962.
To Hospital 2.
The Battalion left BOURECQ at 1.0 pm passed through ROBECQ at 3.30 pm, tea on east side of latter place. Arrived & went into billets at PARADIS at 7.30 pm.
1/6th Battalion – Bn Hqrs was shelled at about 11. Am one shell hitting the roof. Capt G.Chubb was killed, being hit in the head by a sniper while looking over the parapet about 4. pm It was found more convenient to issue rations to Companies early in the morning, as during the night the communication trenches were blocked by working parties proceeding from & to the subsidiary fire trenches, which were under construction. Rations were therefore dumped at Headquarters by night, divided into Company Messes by Coy Quartermaster Sergt, & fetched by Companies about 3.30 am in the morning.
Casualties – One officer killed (Capt Chubb) 3 other ranks wounded.
