The Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment 12th August 1916

12th August 1916 –

1st Battalion – The Battalion spent the day cleaning up billets and fitting up prior to moving into the trenches at FONQUEVILLERS to relieve the 52nd Bde. The first company left SOUASTRE at 8 pm and went into the FRONT LINE Trenches in front of GOMMECOURT relieving the 10th Royal Lancashire Fusl, The remaining Companies followed at intervals. The Battalion completed the relief by about 11 pm on the night of 12th/13th without any incident. Distributing of Coys as follows –
A & B FIRING LINE.
C & D Coys Support.
2nd BattalionVIGNACOURT.
12 noon – Entrained for MARICOURT arriving at destination at about 7 pm after a very “round about” journey marched from the station to camp arriving at 9.30 pm.

2/4th Battalion
1/5th Battalion
1/6th Battalion – Quiet day all men were out most of the early morning on working parties.
7th Battalion – Work as on day previous. Reinforcements 100 O.R. joined the battalion.
8th Battalion – The Bn remained in the Trenches. Heavy bombardment continued.
10th Battalion – Normal – Killed G/11759 Pte F. Alexander.

11th Battalion – The battalion relieved the 10th Royal West Kent Regiment in the trenches.
