The Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment 23rd March 1916


23rd March 1916 –


1st Battalion – Left company at MINE POINT trench mortared in morning.
4.30pm Heavy bombardment for 1½ hours of front & support lines. One killed. Enemy sprang small mine near MIDNIGHT crater. No damage. Two wounded by bomb at night. Colonel Crofts granted 4 days leave to England.
2nd Battalion – Several Wizz-bangs fell on MANSEL COPSE during the afternoon. No damage done. German Patrol scattered by L.G. fire at 3am.
Officers 32.    Other Ranks 857.
Reinforcement 2/Lt B.H. Hayes.
2/4th Battalion
1/5th Battalion 30 men per coy were put at Lieut Mountford’s disposal to construct the huts & made good progress.
1/6th BattalionSAILLY LA BOURSE.
Battalion supplied working party under R.E. which took every available man.
7th Battalion – 2 Lieut G.S. Dandridge was appointed Transport Officer vice Lieut C.A. Haggard to duty.
