The Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment 15th October 1915

15th October 1915 – 

1st BattalionANNAQUIN.
Ordinary routine.
2nd Battalion – Enemy’s trench mortars active during afternoon to which we replied not with little effect. Our field guns & finally howitzers were turned on which silenced the mortars.
At night certain amount of bombing & shelling in neighbourhood of HOHENZOLLERN.
Officers 26.    Other Ranks 738.
Wounded 3.
To Hospital 1.
Reinforcements Other Ranks 21.
1/6th Battalion – Remained in trenches – found working party of 500 to dig new communication trench about G.12 c 21
Casualties Wounded O.R. 4.
2/4th Battalion – During this period the Battalion was employed digging trenches on and around LALA BABA and garrisoning the trenches by night.
7th Battalion – Enemy fired a few shells at F 3 c 1585. Orders received that Bn, would be relieved on 17-18.
8th Battalion – Left for trenches. Men had dinner in field with transport. Arrived in trenches at 7pm and took over trenches by 9pm from Scotch Fusiliers (27 & 28 trenches) and 11th Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders 29 trench.
